CLD.RĀN is Victor Ferreira’s new adventure that steers toward all things glitchy. Ferreira’s new realms are based on digitally degraded, click n’ cut groove textures and artfully granular melody experimentation. It is a fresh outlook and a bit of fantasy for Ferreira‘s mind, taking a breather from his usual occupation as the head honcho of Sun Glitters.

Following up on the debut EP, which was released in October 2019, and which saw significant coverage on BBC Radio, Ferreira is continuing to widen and explore his more experimental music leanings through the CLD.RĀN project. The signature glitchy and distorted sounds help create an abstract flavor that is uniquely Ferreira’s.

The lead single /ˈsʌɪklɪŋ/ (aka ‘cycling’) continues this trend: it is simultaneously a relaxing and an unsettling piece of music that urges the listener to embrace its specific mood. For admirers of experimental and electronic avant-garde music, CLD.RĀN’s latest offering will be a treat for the ears and the soul.

Future Archive Recordings is excited to release ‘Sloh Remixes’, featuring three alternate versions of songs from il:lo’s latest EP ‘Sloh’. The release features a new remix by Edamame (Loci Records, Gravitas Recordings, Abandon Building Records) that gives ‘Cami’ a deeper, more introspective sound, while sneaking in a heavier beat signature of Edamame’s sound. ‘Sloh Remixes’ also includes two previously released remixes from Frameworks (Loci Records) and CNJR (Future Archive Recordings). Frameworks remixes il:lo’s breakout success ‘Alma’, while CNJR remixes the other single from ‘Sloh’, titled ‘Niyati’.

Dark synth and experimental producer CNJR puts his spin on ‘Niyati’ by il:lo, out 10 April 2020 on Future Archive Recordings. The remix fuses il:lo’s classic downtempo and chillwave aesthetic with CNJR’s darker and retro synth driven palette. Starting out with a more ambient soundscape than the original track, and building to a drop that incorporates new and additional sounds. ‘Niyati’ was originally released on il:lo’s latest EP ‘Sloh’, out now on Future Archive Recordings.

Blockhead, the veteran hip-hop producer and beat-maker, released his most recent LP ‘Bubble Bath’ in late 2019 on Future Archive Recordings. Now, one of the label co-founders and the synth-driven, dark electronic producer CNJR, has taken the single ‘Life Support’ and put a unique spin on it. Originally a laid back, mostly instrumental, hip-hop beat seemingly perfect for sinking into the couch with your favorite alterative, now carries CNJR’s self-described ‘weirdo music’ sound, exploring a more energetic palette with retro synths coloring the melody.

Natasha Kmeto releases a remix version of Last Time, originally released on her album Crisis. Remixed by CNJR, the creative take on the original explores a synth driven cyberpunk aesthetic, as CNJR is known for.

Since arriving in 2011—at the crest of an era overflowing with blissful synth projects—Luxembourg-based music producer Victor Ferreira (aka Sun Glitters) has earned a loyal following through consistent output, collaboration, worldwide tours, and festival appearances. With remixes for Purity Ring, Slow Magic, Blue Foundation and numerous others, and live support for the likes of Moderat, Son Lux and Gold Panda, Ferreira has quickly left a mark on the electronic music scene. Over the years, he has received glowing coverage from Dazed & Confused, BBC, Resident Advisor, Earmilk, XLR8R, Pitchfork, The Guardian and a bevy of other trend setting music outlets.

Ferreira will release his new full-length album as Sun Glitters in May 2020. Writes Ferreira about the forthcoming record: “SSofftt TToouucchh expresses my creative process, my mood, and my thoughts, which are always changing but seem to usually come back to my initial idea. Especially as these songs were done several years ago (2015-2016), but only completed now. I decided it was the right time to refresh them and compile them into a proper release. This also influenced the name of the album: SSoofftt TToouucchh. Playing with digital and motion collages was part of my process, inserting interludes in between songs to create short stories or chapters that speak to the years transpired since starting the writing process. I have always liked the idea of a wine spending years in a cave to develop its taste. SSofftt TToouuch has a nostalgic, soft touch to it, and my listeners will find that it relates back to some of my early material.”

Veteran hip-hop producer and beat-maker Blockhead emerges with a fresh take on GRN by dark synth and experimental electronic artist CNJR. Blockhead, with prior releases on Ninja Tune, Future Archive Recordings, and others, offers a new palette of sounds amidst CNJR‘s synths, lightening the mood compared to the original version, and offering a beat-centric version true to his signature sound.

GRN was originally released on Future Archive Recordings in June 2019, and Blockhead‘s latest album Bubble Bath was released on Future Archive Recordings in November 2019. This is the first exploration of the two artists’ sounds melding together.

Internationally renowned producer Starkey offers his take on CNJR’s ISV. Known for being a leader of “Street Bass”, which combines elements of hip-hop, grime and dubstep, Starkey is widely considered a true inventor of sound.

ISV was originally released on March 1, 2019 by Future Archive Recordings and was the lead single from the debut full-length album by CNJR. One of the founders of Future Archive Recordings, CNJR explores the cross sections of dark synth, retro, sci-fi soundtracks, and experimental electronic. Focused on taking listeners on a journey, CNJR offers an introspective sonic palette that is unique and complex. 

The original version of ISV features an overdriven, distorted, rhythm section married to overlapping synth arpeggios. Starkey’s take strips down the original pieces and reassembles the song into a darker and heavier experience, focused on bass and reinterpreted glitchy glimpses of the original arpeggios.

It seems that compartmentalizing this new material away from Sun Glitters has allowed Ferreira the chance to get back to the glorious sketchbook days of starting a new project. CLD.RĀN is free of the connotations and pressures that existing projects and tasks have attached to them. Lead single /ˈtʌɪmləs/ exists on an almost psychedelic plain, floating in a micro-beat dream state, gloriously warm pads pushed through woozy tremolos, finished with dainty arpeggios breaking up to the sound of light digital distortion. This is late night music for heads, but it’s also peaceful early morning coffee at sunrise. The intimate production and melting granular melodies flash and crack gently throughout the EP, and the results are sublime.

Ferreira, when questioned, keeps coming back to the idea of “trying something new” time and time again, using CLD.RĀN almost as a vehicle for alleviating stress. With different studio setups and DAWs – allowing his fingers to wander across keyboards, see what comes out and how, and freeing samples and melodies to cluster purely through vibe – structure and form seem to follow naturally and perhaps subconsciously as mood and texture reign across the EP.
