Blockhead Releases 2nd Single From New Album

Building on the thump of On The Bright Side, the first single taken from the forthcoming Bubble Bath 2LP set, Life Support is a low-down seventies jazz-funk exploration; thumping soul rhythms, shimmering jazz organs, a bold, blaxploitation soaked bass line…. Tony is in classic blue-note-meets-hip hop mode on this track and it shows. With subtle hints of brass, tempered with synth arp lines, Blockhead’s attention to his mix is as sharp as ever, asserting his position in the scene amongst peers like Cinematic Orchestra, and newer contemporaries Badbadnotgood and so on. Blockhead‘s 2019 return is a thing to behold!!

Yppah Releases New Single

Legendary genre-bending producer Yppah releases single By Then It’ll be Too Late Sept 26th 2019 on new label-home Future Archive Recordings. It is a gleaming crown jewel in the distinguished artist’s catalogue.

Yppah has been furrowing his own path for years, his context heavily anchored in the turntable, scratch and sample-led hip-hop scene of the 90s. With three classic albums for Ninja Tune, he began growing and folding in his new love for shoegaze, post-punk and indie.

By Then It’ll Be Too Late is the first single from Yppah’s forthcoming album, due out in February 2020 on Future Archive Recordings.

CLD.RĀN Releases Debut Single

CLD.RĀN is the new solo project of Victor Ferreira from Sun Glitters. Debut EP /ˈsʌndri/ will be released on October 25, 2019 via Future Archive Recordings.

1st single /ˈtʌɪmləs/ is out now and features a remix by Mugwood, the solo project of Antony Ryan from ISAN. Take a listen here.

_____________________________________________________________

CLD.RĀN is Victor Ferreira’s new adventure that steers toward all things glitchy. Ferreira’s new realms are based on digitally degraded, click n’ cut groove textures and artfully granular melody experimentation. It is a fresh outlook and a bit of fantasy for Ferreira‘s mind, taking a breather from his usual occupation as the head honcho of Sun Glitters.

Mugwood is the solo project of Antony Ryan (half of electronic music duo ISAN), primarily exploring and reworking material by other artists using a simple rule: transmitting and re-recording source material via portable radio, with further manipulation using the Teenage Engineering OP-1.

Tracklisting:

02/ . /ˈtʌɪmləs/ (Mugwood Remix)

Arms and Sleepers announce new album with single ‘Give Me This’

‘Give Me This’ is the new single from the electronic music duo Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic, aka Arms and Sleepers. The duo has been actively releasing music since forming in Boston, Massachusetts back in 2006. Their sound has spanned electronic, trip-hop, ambient, and hip-hop genres, among others. With several dozen releases and extensive worldwide touring under their belt, the duo is now gearing up for what looks to be their most serious musical undertaking yet: a six-part music release to be made available throughout 2020.

‘Give Me This’ is the first taste of what’s to come next year. Taken from the first of six upcoming releases, the single is a confident opening statement that combines elements of the older, more melancholic Arms and Sleepers sound with the heavier electronic music leanings of the last full-length album ‘Find The Right Place’. Writes Ramic, “As with some of my favorite songs that we’ve written over the years, this track came together pretty quickly. I came across this vocal sample while looking through some old files on our music hard drive. It resonated with me immediately, and I decided to stay up all night and make something out of it. The result in the early morning hours was a first draft of ‘Give Me This’, which I then sent over to our pal Sun Glitters to polish.”

The Luxembourg-based music producer Sun Glitters has once again been tasked with mixing and co-producing the new Arms and Sleepers material. He’s been a frequent collaborator since 2016, and the two artists—along with Little People and CNJR—also came together last year to start their own record label Future Archive Recordings. The forthcoming Arms and Sleepers album will be the artist’s first full-length release on the new label.

‘Give Me This’ is a simple yet infectious instrumental track that commands close attention during its three minute running time. Combining synthetic drum sounds with a warm vocal sample and adding heavy bass and synths on top, Arms and Sleepers manages to put together a piece of music that is both energetic and introspective. Ramic explains, “I view this as a more aggressive track for us, and one that gets to the point very quickly. For me, this song is about freely and often irresponsibly satisfying our carnal human desires, especially at a younger age when most of us might feel invincible. But as we get older, things change, our health deteriorates, and second chances are not an option. It’s this sentiment behind a journey from careless youth decision-making to brutal adult realities that I wanted to somehow capture in the song.”

Arms and Sleepers will release their ninth studio album, titled ‘Safe Area Earth’, on January 17, 2020 via Future Archive Recordings. The 1st single ‘Give Me This’ is out on September 13, 2019.

Bubble Bath is a record born out of meditative expression and ongoing personal creative challenge, this is key for a producer of Blockhead’s experience. Carried forward is the incredible hook and sample placement skills of classic works such as Uncle Tony’s Coloring Book and Music By Cavelight, but what has emerged is a. overwhelming sense of natural musicality and sophistication:

“I want the music I make to be unaffected by outside influences. I like the idea of working in a bubble… …When I have to describe what I do, to someone, it’s always a little awkward because it starts as “I’m a musician” and as questions come back it gets broken down. “No, I don’t play any instruments” “No, I’m not trained in musical theory” “I make beats”. When it comes down to it, everything I do has always been guided by my ears and sensibility.”

Track Listing:

1) On The Bright Side  [listen]
2) Bubble Bath
3) Spicy Peppercorn
4) The Magical Intimacy Camel
5) It Is Not Yet Time For The Percolator
6) Sugar Daddies’ Lament
7) Over and Out
8) Life Support
9) Moist Ghost
10) Spa Day With Your Moms
11) That’s How He Got Dead
12) Vitamin D Deficiency
